πŸ“° Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:

  1. How’s Zone 2 crime doing? The Atlanta Police Department (APD) released its week 9 report ending March 4. Year to date, we’ve had two homicides, three rapes and 38 aggravated assaults. We also had a total of 577 property crimes, with thefts from motor vehicles being the most prevalent. (APD)
  2. Atlanta Public Safety Training Center update: Last week on Friday, noted civil rights organizations spoke out against domestic terrorism charges being leveled against protestors from Defend the Atlanta Forest. The groups object to protest-related offenses being called domestic terrorism. Moreover, they challenge the broad application of the domestic terrorism statute, particularly since some of the defendants also face charges of vandalism and arson. β€œCivil disobedience and disruptive activism is part of the American protest tradition,” they conclude. Signatories include Amnesty International USA, CODEPINK, Greenpeace USA, Human Rights Watch and the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights. (Human Rights Watch)
  3. Officials unveiled a statue of Xernona Clayton on Wednesday. You can see the likeness of the civil and women’s rights icon at the corner of West Peachtree and Simpson Street. "The mere fact it’s come to this, that people wanted to create something for me. This is not something I asked for. This came from well-wishers, people who think I’ve done something. I’m flattered and honored by the results. I’m speechless today," Clayton said at the occasion. (11 Alive)
  4. It’s not too late to enter the 22nd annual St. Baldrick's head shaving event at the Fado Irish Pub! Scheduled for today, Friday, the event is a fundraiser for research that leads to cures for childhood cancers. The shaving starts at 2:30 p.m. and will continue until 6:30 p.m. (St. Baldrick’s)
  5. The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation invites you to its annual Spring Ramble. Learn about the city’s history, tour some of the grand abodes, and rub elbows with like-minded residents. Festivities begin on March 30 with a preview party at the Ansley Park Mansion, β€œthe oldest house in Atlanta’s Ansley Park neighborhood.” A Heritage Reception is scheduled for April 22 at the Randolph-Lucas-Jones House. For the folks looking for a freebie, consider the Pre-Ramble Insider Tour of the Governor’s Mansion in Tuxedo Park on April 20. If you just want to focus your attention on Buckhead, set aside April 21 for a full tour. (Georgia Trust)
