Zoo Atlanta Launches Panda Twins Naming Contest
The five sets of names were selected by Zoo Atlanta colleagues at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China.

Good Morning America announced the five sets of names in contention during its Oct. 3Β broadcast.
Voting will begin online throughΒ Wednesday, Oct. 9, onΒ Good Morning America.Β The winning sets ofΒ names will be announced onΒ the cubsβ 100 Day Naming Celebration, scheduled forΒ Oct. 23, 2013.Β
The five sets of names were selected byΒ ZooΒ AtlantaΒ colleagues at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China. Monikers in the running are:
- Mei LunΒ (may loon) andΒ Mei HuaΒ (may hwaa), meaning βLun Lunβs twin cubs born in the U.S.β
- Mei LunΒ (may loon) andΒ Mei HuanΒ (may hwaan), originating from a Chinese idiom that also means βsomething indescribably beautiful and magnificentβ
- Tian LunΒ (tee-an loon) andΒ Tian LeΒ (tee-an luh), a modified version of another Chinese idiom meaning βjoy of family lifeβ or βfamily happinessβ
- Lan TianΒ (lan tee-an) andΒ Bi ShuiΒ (bee shway), meaning βblue sky and clear waterβ
- Da LanΒ (dah lan) andΒ Xiao LanΒ (sheow lan), meaning βbigger one (a reference to the larger Cub B) and smaller one (Cub A) ofΒ Atlanta-born twins.βΒ
TheΒ Zooβs PANDA Extravaganza Sweepstakes, now open onΒ www.zooatlanta.org, will randomly select one giant panda fan and a guest for a personal visit to the giant panda cubsβ nursery and VIP participation in their 100 Day Naming Celebration.
The prize also includes roundtrip airfare toΒ AtlantaΒ from anywhere in the continental U.S.; two nights at WΒ AtlantaΒ β Downtown; dinner for two at BLT SteakΒ Atlanta; and a spa package for two at BlissΒ Atlanta.Β
