1 Dead In Hourslong Sugar Hill SWAT Standoff
An armed person inside the home shot at officers multiple times during the lengthy standoff that began Monday night.

SUGAR HILL, GA — A person armed with a rifle died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an overnight SWAT standoff in the 1200 block of Sycamore Summit in Sugar Hill, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
The situation began around 10:45 p.m. Monday night when Gwinnett officers were serving felony warrants at a home, police said. SWAT officers were called to the scene around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday after the person was seen with a rifle, police said.
The person shot at officers multiple times around 4 a.m. during the standoff, hitting a SWAT robot and a nearby home, police said. A Gwinnett SWAT officer shot back, and the person went back into the home, police said.

The standoff lasted for several hours, with SWAT officers attempting to contact the person in the home, police said.
Authorities later closed Sycamore Road between Autumn Wood Trail and E M Croy Road and asked people to avoid the area. Residents were asked to evacuate the area.

The Georgia State Patrol arrived on the scene around 9:45 a.m. and helped Gwinnett SWAT officers enter the home, police said. The person was found dead from what police said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Homicide detectives are on the scene investigating, and the Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene.
