'Swine & Shine' Named Grand Champion at BBQ Contest: News Nearby

The Braselton team won the top prize at the City of Kennesaw's Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival.

The Swine & Shine BBQ team from Braselton was named Grand Champion at the Kennesaw BBQ Contest over the weekend.

The Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition was held Friday and Saturday at the 15th annual City of Kennesaw’s Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival, according to a news release.

As Grand Champion, Swine & Shine BBQ won $2,500 cash, a Primo Ceramic Grill with accessories, a one-of-a-kind ceramic trophy, as well as bragging rights in what was also a Georgia BBQ Championship event. The team took home an additional $700 cash and prizes in other judging categories, including 4th place in chicken, 2nd place in pork, and 5th place in beef brisket.

Que’n Stew’n and Brew’n was the Grand Reserve Champion (runner-up), taking home $1,500 cash and a

ceramic trophy.

The 1st place winners in each of the four professional categories were as follows:

Chicken: Plum Superior BBQ

Pork Ribs: Bub-Ba-Q

Pork: Squealz on Wheels

Beef Brisket: Hot Watchulas

Each category winner received $500 cash and a ceramic trophy.

A total of 54 cooking teams competed. Certified KCBS judges evaluated the entries. Contest results can be found at www.pigsandpeaches.com.
