Nineteen monks from TX are walking 2,300 miles over a span of 120 days to call for peace as they head toward the U.S. Capitol, visiting GA.
More than a dozen Buddhist monks calling for peace will arrive in Morrow on late Monday afternoon as they continue their 120-day journey toward the U.S. Capitol - by foot.
Nineteen monks began their walk on Oct. 26 from Forth Worth, Texas, and are expected to arrive on Feb. 12, 2026 at the nation's Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The 2,300-mile venture has been dubbed the "Walk for Peace." According to the group's Facebook page, the purpose of the walk is "to raise awareness of peace, loving kindness and compassion across America and the world."

Since entering Georgia on Friday, the monks said they have visited West Point, Hogansville, Lagrange, Sharpsburg, Moreland, Fayetteville and Peachtree City. Their dog, Aloka, is traveling with them.
"Georgia, we are honored to walk your roads and meet your people. May we share peace, compassion, unity, and healing together. The journey continues—with gratitude for where we’ve been, and respect for where we go. May you and all beings be happy and at peace," the monks said in a Facebook post published Friday, adding they have now walked through five states.

She shared she purchased, socks, Kleenex tissues, electrolyte drink mixes, water, granola bars, gum, Pringles and fruit for gift bags to give them.
"To think they started in Texas, and somehow, I got to see them all the way in Fayetteville, it was very much surreal," Jennings said. "... This is unity."

The monks will travel Veterans Parkway to Cross Highway 92 to Westbridge to Highway 138 as they enter into Clayton County, local police said.
From Highway 138, they are expected to head toward 138 Spur to the Morrow Center, Clayton County Police said.

"The Walk for Peace represents more than a moment," Clayton County Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry said in a video statement. "It represents a message for nonviolence, mindfulness and togetherness. I encourage everyone to come out and support the monks as they past through our county. Your presence, whether standing alone throughout, walking alongside them or offering a moment of reflection shows that Clayton County stands for peace."
Anderson-Henry planned to present a proclamation to the monks, city officials said.
Then, at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Decatur will host a peace gathering at Beacon Municipal Complex Courtyard, 105 Electric Ave., in anticipation of the monks' arrival into the DeKalb County town, city officials said. The event will include remarks and a moment of reflection.
Between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, New Year's Eve, the monks will arrive at Wat Lao Buddha Khanti, located at 4052 Zoar Church Road in Snellville, Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson said.
"Their journey is rooted in mindfulness, nonviolence, and connection—values that resonate deeply as we close out the year and prepare to welcome a new one," Hendrickson said. "Those who are interested in learning more, welcoming the monks, or participating in upcoming moments during their visit are encouraged to follow along and join as you are able."
There will be a question-and-answer session, a prayer and blessing session and a greeting.
According to an overview map, the monks will continue walking the path through metro Atlanta and should arrive in Athens between Jan. 1 and Jan. 10, 2026. They could cross state lines into South Carolina sometime around Jan. 10, the map showed.
