Here are the top five stories in Canton and Sixes today:

  1. Cherokee County Animal Shelter states it desperately needs dry cat food for those who utilize the food pantry. The shelter stated the community has generously come through for the dog parents in need over and over again, but the cat side of the pantry has not been full in a while. Consider donating either wet or dry cat food in any brand and size either directly to the shelter or take a look at the Pet Food Pantry Wish List for a quick and easy donation! 2. The Canton family whose home was destroyed in a fire in Glen Echol Falls last week is sharing their story. The family was inside the home at the time of the fire and stated they "barely made it out alive." Just a few weeks ago, the Adams family lost their seven-month-old daughter and granddaughter, Gracie. "Literally five weeks ago, we just lost her and thought we lost everything and now, we really have lost everything,” said Gracie's father, William Donovan. 3. Four Cherokee County men have been sentenced in relation to gang activity from a 2021 incident. Jeffrey Lee Kreiger, James Alton McKinzie, Ethan Charles Bradley Petty, and Collin Christopher Zinicola — all of Canton — took plea deals as they admitted to taking part in a 2021 gang-related incident involving firearms and terroristic threats. They also admitted to being a part of the Woodpile Gang. (WSB-TV)
  4. Early numbers show one in six Cherokee County residents have voted early. According to a report from Cherokee County Elections and Registration, 37,540 in-person early voting and absentee ballots had been cast. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  5. Looking for something fun to do with your toddler today on Halloween? Head over to the R.T. Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
