  1. An application is going before the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners tomorrow for the construction of another area subdivision. The 37-acre plot is currently zoned for agriculture, but David Pearson Communities is looking to get that switched to single family residential so the company can build a 108-home subdivision at the intersection of Sixes Road and Hillhouse Lane. The developer is also requesting several variances, including those that would allow for a gated community with private streets. If you'd like to attend the meeting, it is open to the public and being held at the Cherokee County Conference Center at The Bluffs, 1130 Bluffs Parkway. The agenda is here. 2. If you've been looking for a volunteer opportunity around town, Cherokee Recreation & Parks is holding a Volunteer Trail Clean-up and Maintenance day on Saturday. You can help keep our parks beautiful, and it's a great opportunity for all ages. The organizers will provide tools, but you can also bring yours if you'd like. Please reach out to Adam Fussell with any questions at cafussell@cherokeega.com. The clean-up day runs from 9 a.m. - noon, and the park getting a cleaning will be announced as we get closer. Please register at the link. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
  3. Saturday is History Cherokee's 20th Annual Derby Day. There are still tickets available for the fundraiser at The Mill on Etowah. It looks to be a fantastic event. Kentucky Derby Day was originally held in the Historic Crescent Rock Barn in Canton until moving to The Mill and is the largest fundraiser that History Cherokee holds all year. The event will feature bourbon tastings and a hat contest, pony pull and silent auction. Attendees will also enjoy gourmet food, specialty cocktails, a live viewing of the Kentucky Derby and more. You can learn more or purchase your tickets at the link. (History Cherokee)
