Aphasia Readers Shines a Light on Aphasia Awareness Month with Tools Designed to Empower Communication
Innovative book series helps adults with aphasia rebuild language skills and reconnect with loved ones — one page at a time.

Canton, GA – June 5, 2025 – In honor of Aphasia Awareness Month, Aphasia Readers is proud to reaffirm its mission to help individuals with aphasia reconnect with the world around them through innovative, accessible reading materials. This June, the company is amplifying awareness and offering hope to families, caregivers, and speech-language professionals seeking meaningful resources to support communication recovery.
Aphasia, a language disorder typically caused by stroke or brain injury, affects over 2 million people in the United States and impairs the ability to speak, read, write, or understand language. Despite its prevalence, public awareness of aphasia remains limited — a challenge Aphasia Readers is working to change.
Founded by a stroke survivor and spousal caregiver, Aphasia Readers provides specially designed books that use simple sentence structure, visual support to help with word retrieval, and adult-relevant themes to help people with aphasia regain confidence and connection through reading aloud to improve speech. These materials are created not only to support speech therapy goals but also to bring joy, independence, and dignity back into daily routines.

“Our mission is deeply personal,” said Anna Teal, founder of Aphasia Readers. “We saw firsthand how isolating aphasia can be, and we knew there had to be a better way to support language recovery at home. These books were born out of that need — and out of love. We were so blessed to have partnered with the University of Michigan Aphasia Program during the development process.”
This month, Aphasia Readers is also launching a special campaign to educate the public on aphasia, highlight real stories of recovery, and offer exclusive discounts on all books and bundles. Visitors can find these resources and more at https://aphasiareaders.com.
