Blaze Burns In Historic Downtown Area Of Cherokee

BALL GROUND, GA — A fire burned Sunday at a commercial building in the historic downtown area of Ball Ground, Cherokee County fire officials said.

The blaze sparked around 3:30 a.m. at Gilmer Ferry Road, according to the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters discovered heavy smoke and visible flames coming through the roof of the vacant building, fire officials said.

After an aggressive attack of the fire, officials said they were able to gain control of the flames.

Fire officials did not say if there were injuries, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
