Canton Asks Residents To Slash Water Use

The city wants its water customers to reduce the amount of water they use in their daily lives.

CANTON, GA -- In light of a Level 1 drought declared by the state, the city of Canton is urging its customers to conserve water.

Canton and Cherokee County fall within the Level 1 Drought Response declared Sept. 9 by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).

However, since that declaration was issued, the city notes "there has been little decline in water usage in the city of Canton."

"Citizens of Canton have adhered to the requirements for outdoor watering, however without a decrease in demand and water levels in the Etowah River steadily receding, the Canton Water Plant cannot produce enough water to meet the demands on the system," the city added in a message.

To keep up with demand, the city is asking all of its customers -- residential as well as commercial -- to conserve water by doing the following:

  • Significantly reducing or eliminating non essential outdoor watering.
  • Repair leaks, breaks or malfunctions on your systems.
  • Do not leave the tap running when shaving, brushing your teeth or washing your face.
