- Canton was recently awarded $4.4 million in grants through The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The grants are given to help improve or repair neighborhood areas like parks, recreation areas and sidewalks, as well as for healthy food access initiatives, negatively affected by the pandemic. In Canton, the grant will be used in part towards work on a pedestrian bridge and sidewalk at Canton Creek that will link Sunnyside and Downtown Canton. The city also received over $600,000 in grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission that will be used to connect the Etowah River Trail System and The Mill on Etowah via a pedestrian bridge and funds from the Atlanta Regional Commission that will e used for improvements to State Route 140 in the section of road between Riverstone Parkway and Reinhardt College Parkway. - The R.T. Jones Memorial Library is hosting the Cherokee County Farm Bureau in a talk this Friday about the plants that naturally grow in our area. The presentation, "Native Plants 101," will cover the different native plants in our area and how to spot them around the city. After the presentation, the library will be discussing their "Cherokee BioBlitz" challenge. Project participants will document the different wild plants and animals they encounter to help the library system create a map illustrating our area's biodiversity. - The Cherokee County Aquatic Center is holding a Princess Pool Party on Saturday. The event will take place at the Aquatic Center in the Rec Pool and will feature an Ariel character from "The Little Mermaid," who will be singing, dancing, making crafts and taking pictures with your children. Afterwards, the movie will be shown on the screen while the kids relax in the pool. Your child is welcome to wear special princess clothes if they wish, but they will need to bring along a bathing suit. You can sign up for the event here, registration closes on Friday. - The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has put out the call for donations. If you would like to help, they're in need of paper towels, dry cat and dog food for their Pet Food Pantry, small cans of wet dog food, clear Rubbermaid tubs and Frontline Plus for dogs and cats. You can see the full list of items at the link, please bring your donations over to the shelter Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shelter is located at 1015 Univeter Road in Canton. - American Red Cross Community Blood Drive: As of right now, there are still almost 10 spots left for today's drive. You can make an appointment at the link, the drive is at the Hickory Flat Fellowship Church, 5301 Hickory Flat Highway. Donors will receive a $10 gift card. (11 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
- Dungeon Explorers Roleplaying Adventure: For those in grades 3 and up, children must be accompanied by an adult. A simplified Dungeons and Dragons adventure, everyone is welcome. Pre-generated characters, supplies and snacks will be provided, please register here for the event at the Rose Creek Library, 4476 Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock. (5 - 6 p.m.)
- Summer Family Film Series - "Puss In Boots - The Last Wish": It's time for $1 movies at the Canton Theatre! The movies in this year's series will be shown twice each Thursday in June and July. You can purchase tickets at the link, the theater address is 171 E. Main St. (10 a.m. and 2 p.m.)
- Team Trivia: Join the trivia fun every Thursday at Sidelines Grille, 6199 Hickory Flat Highway. (7 p.m.)
- Trivia Night: Head over to Reformation Brewery at 225 Reformation Parkway for trivia with Lights Up! Entertainment tonight, prizes for the top 3 winners. (7 - 9 p.m.)
- Karaoke Night: Sing your heart out every Tuesday and Thursday at Canton Icehouse, 150 Keith Drive. (8 p.m. - midnight)

- This week marks the beginning of free Yoga In The Park, hosted by Horizon Healing Center. The hour-long classes will be held at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month through September, though the event will be canceled if it's raining. The classes will be held in Brown Park, at 251 E. - B&B Tavern and Laughing Skull Lounge have the laughs you need. There are still tickets available for their "Best of Atlanta Comedy Show" at 7 p.m. this Saturday. - On Sunday, Hanalei SUP Yoga and Horizon Healing Center are holding a SUP Yoga class for all skill levels. The class will start with a quick lesson on paddle boarding basics, followed by a yoga class on the board. The board rental is included in the ticket price, the yoga session will take place in Cherokee Mills Park on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock at 12:30 p.m. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
- The Cherokee Aquatic Center is holding two "Parent's Night Out" evenings this month. The upcoming events are on June 9 & 16, and they're a great chance to steal a moment for yourself while the kids enjoy a night of swimming, eating, crafts, games and a movie. - Cherokee Recreation & Parks is holding the next "Red Cross Babysitting + Pediatric CPR" class on June 24 at 9 a.m. The class is for babysitters aged 11-15 and covers the skills needed to safely care for children and infants. Participants will also learn how to develop a business, keep everyone safe when babysitting and basic child care and first aid. - If you have a child entering Kindergarten through grade 8, there's an enrollment information session at Cherokee Charter Academy tonight. The school is accepting applications for the upcoming school year, so if you'd like to attend, be sure to fill yours out soon. The school is located at 2126 Sixes Road, and the info session will start at 6:30 p.m. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
