Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:

  1. On Saturday, Jul. 2, about 700 people lined up on North and Main streets in downtown Canton to watch the city's Independence Day parade. The Daughters of the American Revolution, Boy Scouts of America, Canton Police Department, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Cherokee Sheriff's Office, and other local organizations participated in the parade.   2. The Netflix series "Ozark" is filmed in and around the regions of Atlanta, Lake Lanier, and Lake Allatoona. Canton is also one of the filming locations for the show. Find out more about the filming locations and where you can watch the show at the link. (Otakuk Art)
  3. Some people in Hollywood are calling for the film industry to stop filming in Georgia due to the pending "heartbeat" abortion law. Others say that Georgia's tax credit for films is too good for most filmmakers to boycott. “It’s quite a costly stand to take, so it will be interesting to see if film companies are really willing to forgo those lower filming costs,” said Kennesaw State University economics professor J.C.   4. The Appalachian Regional Commission released the annual economic status rankings of the Appalachia area. Cherokee County in Georgia was one of only four counties in the Apalachia that attained socioeconomic parity with the rest of the country for the fiscal year 2023. (Northwest Georgia News)

Tomorrow, Jul. 6, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Hickory Flat Public Library, located at 2740 East Cherokee Drive in Canton. Ideal for toddlers ages one to four, but older siblings are welcome to come and dance along. All children must be accompanied by an adult. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
  • Canton PD reminds residents to always check the backseat of your car! A temperatures rise, the inside of a car can get as hot as an oven and children can die in minutes. Always double-check to make sure your child is not in the car when you are leaving and never leave a child unattended in a car. (Facebook)
