  1. A Cherokee County grand jury recently indicted 20-year-old Nathan Bellino of Canton for the assault and false imprisonment of his grandmother. The indictment claims that Bellino kept his grandmother trapped inside his residence for an unspecified period of time in October of 2022. Deputies say Bellino hit and strangled his grandmother and covered her nose and mouth to restrict her breathing. He also allegedly barred her from using any form of communication to call for medical attention. Bellino faces four counts of exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult, aggravated assault, family violence, false imprisonment, and battery. His motive is currently unclear. (WSB Atlanta)
  2. Earlier this week, the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services put a new fire engine into service at Fire Station 16 in Downtown Canton. On Wednesday, crews mounted and installed the final equipment needed for this engine to begin serving local citizens. The Department said in a Facebook post that Engine 16 carries more water and equipment than its predecessor, and invited the public to stop by and see the new engine when they visit Downtown. According to a CPD Facebook post, Corporal Mary Lewis was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, Detective Tania Cruz was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and Officer Michael Crowe was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Each officer was presented with their Attention to Orders by Chief Stephen Merrifield and family members pinned their new supervisor badges on their uniforms.
