“Thank you for representing your school and our community with excellence in this important program,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “Participants give up their fall Saturdays to volunteer as part of the Model ARC. We appreciate your volunteerism and your service to help make metro Atlanta a better place for all of us who call it home.”
The students had the opportunity to speak with local leaders and offer their own ideas on how to improve life in metro Atlanta for its residents. They also visited the Water Tower and F. Wayne Hill Water Reclamation Facility, Georgia Power Headquarters, Pittsburgh Yards and the BeltLine.
“This year’s MARC students demonstrated tremendous leadership as they explored the key issues facing our region – challenges that are sure to shape their own futures,” ARC Board Chairman Kerry Armstrong said. “This dynamic and diverse group of young people got to know Atlanta from a regional perspective and had the opportunity to network with peers from across the metro area. That’s what makes the MARC program so special.”
Now in its 24th year, the program is accepting applications from rising sophomore and juniors for next school year’s class through May 19. There is no cost to participate. The class meets on Saturdays once a month for six months beginning in August. Learn more at http://www.atlantaregional.org/marc.
