CCSD Team Wins Statewide History Competition

A Cherokee County School District team has won first place in a statewide history competition!

The Freedom Middle School eighth-grade history bowl team earned the top trophy at the annual Jimmy Carter Academic History Bowl Competition recently held in Plains.

The Freedom Middle School eighth-grade history bowl team earned the top trophy at the annual Jimmy Carter Academic History Bowl Competition recently held in Plains.The team won all rounds in the competition against teams from across the state.

Team members Callie Beard, Felicia Ciulla, Parker Duncan, Andy Garcia, Lauren Hardy, Logan Johnson, Joel Koffie, Haylie Marsh, Andrew Miller, Grant Olds and Alex Puckett, are coached by eighth-grade social studies teachers Allison Cook, Elizabeth Brooke Knight and Anna Trull.

Teams are tested in their knowledge of U.S. Presidential history, U.S. history, world history, geography and economics. As part of the event, the Freedom MS team also toured President Jimmy Carter’s boyhood home and Andersonville Civil War Prison.

“Congratulations to these students, their teachers and Freedom Middle School on this outstanding achievement!” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “We’re so proud of your dedication to better understanding our country’s government, our history and our world as demonstrated by this statewide honor. Best wishes as you continue your learning and in future academic competitions.”

The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize the team at an upcoming school board meeting.
