Cherokee Schools, County Offices Adjust Schedules For Jan. 10
The Cherokee County School District and Cherokee County government have changed schedules for Friday. Here's the latest.

CANTON, GA — Cherokee County schools and district offices will close Friday and Saturday as Georgia hunkers down for a widespread winter storm that may be a menace to the East Coast.
School officials said Friday will not be a digital learning day.
"Stay safe and warm," school officials said in a notice.

Additionally, Cherokee government offices will close Friday. This includes the tax commissioner's office, the clerk of courts and court buildings.
Residents are advised to visit the county's website for information relating to the closure of juvenile courts.

Staff members with the Department of Public Works will be on-call and on-staff to clear and treat roads, county officials said. State routes will be treated by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
County officials asked residents to stay off of the roads, if possible.
The Cherokee Animal Shelter will close Friday and Saturday. Sunday's wildlife management event at Blankets Creek may resume.
The Cherokee Youth Basketball games, from Friday through Sunday, are postponed. A new date has not been announced. It is unknown if the scheduled photo session will take place.
Officials encouraged residents to visit Cherokee Recreation and Parks for updates on both the wildlife management event and the Cherokee Youth Basketball pictures.
Recreation and Parks has canceled all other events, and all facilities will close Friday and Saturday, officials said.
The Cherokee Emergency Operations Center will activate at 6 p.m. Friday. County officials said throughout the activation period, road closure updates will be posted to Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency on Facebook and shared across Cherokee County government Facebook accounts.
