Cherokee Schools To Close Due To Expected Inclement Weather
A tropical storm warning is in effect for Cherokee County. A flash flood watch remains in effect also through Thursday evening.
CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The Cherokee County School District has announced that schools will be closed Thursday due to potential inclement weather from Hurricane Zeta.
The National Weather Service issued a tropical storm warning for Cherokee County on Thursday. A tropical storm warning means tropical storm-force winds are expected in parts of north Georgia.
According to district officials, the school closings come in anticipation of hazardous wind and flooding conditions during the early morning hours of Thursday.

"This will not be a digital learning day due to the likely event of expected widespread power outages throughout the morning," read a post on the school district's official Facebook page. "A decision to allow Thursday extracurricular events will be made mid-day based upon local conditions."
A flash flood watch remains in effect also through Thursday evening.

The remnants of Hurricane Zeta will produce heavy rain in excess of two to four inches with locally higher amounts. Additionally, minor flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams is expected, with isolated moderate flooding possible.
