Father, Daughter Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide: GA Sheriff

A man found his brother-in-law and niece shot to death in a wood line after receiving a text message, Georgia authorities say.

CANTON, GA — Authorities on Wednesday say a man fatally shot his 28-year-old daughter before dying by suicide Tuesday afternoon in a wood line in Cherokee County.

Deputies were dispatched around 4 p.m. to Lower Burris Road, where the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said it investigated an apparent "murder-suicide."

The 911 caller was identified by authorities as the brother-in-law of Curtis Evans, 57, of Canton.

Authorities say Curtis Evans sent his brother-in-law a text message from "a location deep in the woods," and when the brother-in-law went to check the location, he found Curtis Evans and his daughter dead. Authorities identified the daughter as Emily Evans, of Canton.

The father and daughter died from apparent gunshot wounds, authorities said.

"Though the investigation remains ongoing, all indications are that Curtis Evans shot his daughter before taking his life," authorities said in a news release.

A motive in the deadly shooting was not revealed.
