Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:

  1. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is searching for a missing/runaway child out of Acworth. The 12 year old, Leland Eubanks, was last seen on Monday near his home around 9 p.m. Eubanks is described as a white male, 5-foot-4 inches tall and 98 pounds with brown hair. He was wearing a red University of Georgia sweatshirt with the word "Championship" on the front, black basketball shorts and white and black shoes when he went missing. If you have seen the missing child or have any information about his whereabouts, please contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 770-928-0239 or 911. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
  2. The "Screen on the Green" summer movie series is almost here! The Mill on Etowah has released the schedule, and it all starts with a viewing of the 2023 edition of "The Little Mermaid" on June 7, from 7-9 p.m. The movies will be shown on Wednesdays in June and July out on The Green and include "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days" on June 14, "Happy Feet" on June 21 and "Remember the Titans" on June 28. The movies are free, so grab your friends and family, your folding chairs and a blanket for Wednesday movie nights at The Mill. (The Mill on Etowah via Facebook)
  3. The Heritage Park parking area that sits behind the Popeye's on Riverstone Parkway has been closed since maintenance began on April 10. The City of Canton released a statement yesterday that lot will be closed for about three more months and there will be no access to that parking area by way of Canton Mill Drive during that time. However, the park is still accessible by way of Riverstone Parkway, found at the the entrance next to the Mr. Clean Car Wash. The bathrooms next to the closed parking area will stay open and are accessible by way of the trail at the park. (Canton City News)
  4. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is participating in this Saturday's Alternative Baseball Organization (ABO) baseball game, with members of the department going up to bat with and in support of teens and adults with disabilities. The 1 p.m. game will also include local leaders and celebrities in a 7-inning exhibition game. It's free to attend, so head over to the Tommy Mann Baseball Fields with the family.   5. Just in time to ease the heat suddenly upon us, the Oasis at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center is opening up on Saturday, May 27. The outdoor pool has a water playground, two water slides and lots of fun features for the tiny kids, along with pavilions, family restrooms, locker rooms and cabana rentals. You can pay the entry fee when you get there or get season passes for the family. From May 27-July 30, the hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, except on Sunday, when it will be open from noon-5 p.m. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)

  • BridgeMill Farmers Market: The market is open to all and will take place every Wednesday until November. The neighborhood is located at 1190 BridgeMill Ave. (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

  • Don't forget about this afternoon's Workout Wednesday. The class meets every Wednesday in May, thanks to Cherokee Recreation & Parks. The series is for ages 14 and up, for all skill levels and abilities and will include exercises for your whole body that will be adapted for everyone.   • History Cherokee is holding a cotton loom demonstration this Friday at 11 a.m. The exhibits and collections manager from History Cherokee will use an authentic loom and discuss the historical significance of the machine.   • If you never had the chance to learn ballroom dancing as a youngster, Cherokee Recreation & Parks is offering a class to teach people of all ages the calming and confidence-building benefits of the dance style. You'll learn the Fox Trot, Cha-Cha and Swing in the upcoming June session. Classes will take place at The Buzz, 7345 Cumming Highway from June 6-27, you can sign up at the link.   • The Service League of Cherokee County's "Golfing Fore! The Children" charity golf tournament is coming up on June 16.
