Dozens of Cats Removed in Hoarding Incident in Canton

Between 50 and 100 cats were living in the home in the Canton area, according to the Cherokee County Marshal's Office.

CANTON, Ga. -- As many as 100 cats were surrendered to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter on Saturday in a large hoarding case, according to the Cherokee County Marshal's Office.

The Marshal's Office and Animal Control Units responded to a call regarding a large number of cats a home in the 4300 block of East Cherokee Drive in Canton.

"The marshals determined that there were 50 to 100 cats inside of the home," according to a statement. "Many appeared to be in poor health."

The residents voluntarily surrendered the animals, and personnel were in the process of removing the cats Saturday afternoon.

A child was a resident of the home, according to the Marshal's Office, and state family services has removed the child.

Charges are pending against the homeowners.
