  1. In case you missed it, a Friday morning fire broke out on the rooftop of the Canton Chick-fil-A. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services arrived at the restaurant around noon after receiving reports of visible smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building. Officials believe the building's HVAC system is to blame for the fire, and no injuries were reported. (11 Alive)
  2. A Canton middle schooler was among the top three spellers in the 2023 Cherokee County School District Spelling Bee last week. Charli Wallace of Creekland Middle School claimed third place, with Rohan Pandya of ET Booth Middle School and Joli Palmquist of Mill Creek Middle School taking second and first, respectively. The students were among 30 Cherokee County youth who put their spelling skills to the test in the annual competition. All three students will advance to the regional Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) Bee next month, and the state winner will go on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, DC this June.   3. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will be holding its next meeting tomorrow, Jan. 24, at 6:00 p.m. The agenda will be published on the County's website prior to the meeting. Interested citizens can stream the meeting live at cherokeega.com. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
  4. If you care about the future of the arts in Canton, mark your calendar for a Public Art Plan workshop to be held at 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 2 at Reformation Brewery. Representatives from the City of Canton will be discussing the future of public art in our community with a formal presentation.
