- The first baby of 2023 in Cherokee County has been born in Woodstock! Maci Kennedy and Jerry Gravley are the proud parents of the infant, who they've named Kenzie May Kennedy. The baby was born at 3:02 a.m. on Jan. 1. According to the hospital's announcement, little Kenzie weighed in at five pounds, 14. ounces at the time of her birth. Congratulations! - The local housing market is buzzing with activity, and there are a variety of homes to choose from these days. - The Georgia Peanut Farm Show is right around the corner. The 46th Annual Georgia Peanut Show and Conference will be held on Jan. 19 at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center — certainly a drive from the Canton-Sixes area, but well worth it for those interested in the educational programs and 100+ exhibitors. The show is a great opportunity for farmers from across the state to learn about new products, services, and cutting-edge peanut research. (Morning Ag Clips)
- A Republican Georgia State Representative has opted to step down from the position after being arrested for stealing drugs from a retirement center. Danny Rampey has chosen to step aside, rather than be suspended at the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for later this month. A special election will be held on Jan. 31 to fill the role. Rampey has been charged with stealing prescription narcotics from the retirement complex that he manages. (WJCL News Savannah)
- Calling all prospective pet parents: the Cherokee Humane Society has plenty of adorable, adoptable cats and dogs awaiting their forever homes.
