Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:

1. A former deputy at the Cherokee Sheriff's Office has been accused of sexual assault. Richard Gilleland has been indicted by a grand jury for sexually assaulting one inmate, and counts alleging a second victim. Gilleland was a former officer at the Cherokee County jail. He has been charged with four counts each of sexual assault against an inmate at a correctional facility, and violation of oath by a public officer. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News via Facebook)
2. Sergeant Lilley of the Canton Police Department has reached an impressive career milestone! Lilley has been working with the agency for seven years. 3. The Cherokee County 2023 State of the County Address has been scheduled for Jan. 25 of 2023. The address will run from 11:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. It will be held at the Cherokee Conference Center off Bluffs Parkway in Canton. There will be several guest speakers at the event.
