  1. There is a Cherokee County Alzheimer's Association community forum at 10:30 a.m. today at the Woodstock Library, with discussions covering the disease itself, brain health and the resources available to local residents. You can share your own experience with Alzheimer's and dementia, give input on how the organization can help our residents and hear from other organizations that offer senior services and resources to our county. Registration for the free informational session is here, and the library's address is 7735 Main St. The Alzheimer's Association can be reached at 800-272-3900, they have specialists and clinicians ready to provide information and confidential support 24/7. 2. With summer plans just days from kickoff, it's important to take a pause and safeguard your home and property before you leave town. The Canton Police Department posted a simple, 4-step summer safety checklist on their Facebook page with great points. Be sure to inform your neighbors of the trip details and ask that they keep an eye out. Lock the garage door, this is often overlooked. Set your lights up with timers to imitate normal household activity and activate your security cameras and systems. Have an awesome trip! (Canton PD via Facebook)
  3. If you're looking for somewhere to go to observe Memorial Day, there are a few in Cherokee County. The Georgia National Cemetery here in town will start their ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the assembly area in the cemetery. Red, White & Brews will be going on in Woodstock at the Event Green downtown, the party will start at 5:30 p.m. and will feature music, food and beer. Cherokee County Scout Troop 625 is hosting a Memorial Day Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1 on Sunday at Little River Methodist Church in Woodstock, and the City of Woodstock is holding a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at The Park at City Center starting at 9:30 a.m. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)

  • It's graduation day... every day through Saturday. Traffic on all sides of the First Baptist Church in Woodstock will be much heavier than usual during portions of the afternoon and evening today while you're making your way over. There are activities taking place at the church before and after each of the ceremonies, so the slowdown may start more than an hour prior to each. Congratulations to the graduating students from i-Grad Virtual Academy, River Ridge High School and Cherokee High School — those ceremonies will start at 2, 4 and 8 p.m. today, respectively. (CCSD News)
