- Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is attempting to bring an end to general election runoffs. This push comes in light of the Democrats' victories in the 2020 Senate runoff elections. Raffensperger has not offered any specific plans on how to proceed on this matter but has cited a "wide range of options." The last Senate runoff election saw Democrat Raphael beating GOP challenger Herschel Walker. (CBS News)
- Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services now have new fire engines. The headquarters for the County Fire Services has two new E-ONE Typhoon engines. These will be sent to Stations 11 and 16 to replace older models. The engines will have all of their equipment mounted and checked before they hit the road. - The man charged with a DUI in connection with the deadly car crash that killed Emerson Mayor Al Pallone and his wife Camilla is awaiting his hearing in custody. William Abernathy, 50, is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center until a hearing is scheduled for his case. Abernathy has also been charged with reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle, and vehicular homicide. The mayor and his wife were killed on Saturday as they drove down Knox Bridge Highway. - The Cherokee County 2023 State of the County Address will be held on Jan. 25. The County Address will be held at Bluffs Parkway in Canton from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Council for Quality Growth. There will be an assortment of guest speakers, including Dr. Brian Hightower, Superintendent of Cherokee County School District, Misti Martin, CEO of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development, and Harry Johnston, Commission Chairman of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.
