  1. On Friday, Governor Brian Kemp released the proposed increase to spending in the current budget to $2.4 billion. This would help pay for the $2 billion tax givebacks. It would also fund a $2,000 pay raise for all state university employees as well as public school teachers. Officials hope that the spending increase will go back into the community. (WJXT News4JAX )
  2. A five-year-old Georgia child was killed Thursday during the latest round of vicious winter storms. The child was killed in Butts County (about two hours from Cherokee County) when the car they were in was crushed by a falling tree. Another person who was in the vehicle is currently in critical condition. So far eight people have been killed by the winter storms which are affecting the entire state. (AL.com)
  3. The State of Georgia has released its net tax collections for the month of December. They came in at nearly $3.21 billion, more than $224.9 million from the previous year. Net tax collections for the year have totaled $15.82 billion, an increase of $966.6 million. The surplus is due to an increase in individual income taxes. (Gov.Georgia.gov)
