History Cherokee Celebrates 50 Years at Annual Derby Day Fundraiser

History Cherokee is off to the races once again for the much-anticipated 22nd Annual Kentucky Derby Day Fundraiser, set to take place on May 3, 2025, at The Mill on Etowah. This year’s event is particularly special as History Cherokee celebrates 50 years of preserving and sharing Cherokee County’s rich history. Guests can expect an unforgettable afternoon filled with southern charm, thrilling horse racing on the big screen, and a festive Derby flair—all in support of a great cause.

History Cherokee’s tradition of celebrating the Kentucky Derby began in 2004 at the historic Rock Barn, paying tribute to the harness racing horses once raised on the property by Augustus Lee Coggins. His most successful horse, Abbedale, is honored in the Harness Racing Hall of Fame in Goshen, N.Y.

Kentucky Derby Day is an annual highlight for guests, offering fun, tradition, and a true "Run for the Roses" experience.
