Kennels Emptied At Cherokee Animal Shelter On 'Black Saturday'

Every pet available at the Cherokee Animal Shelter was adopted this weekend during the "Black Saturday" adoption event.

Any all black, black speckled, black striped, black spotted dog, puppy, cat or kitten were free to adopt in Cherokee County this past weekend.

CANTON, GA — The kennels were once again cleared out on Saturday at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter after the group offered free adoptions to celebrate "Black Saturday."

The shelter posted on its Facebook page, "Thank you for giving our pets a home and emptying the kennels-again!"

The shelter said it will have more pets available through the week and to check back on Friday evening for preview photos of those that will be ready for adoption on Saturday at 10 a.m. when Santa comes to visit.

On Saturday, the shelter pets are getting a special visitor and a special gift. Santa Claus will be visiting the shelter, and he is bringing the gift of free adoptions for all the available animals.

Adoptions include:

  • Initial vaccinations
  • Spay/neuter
  • Microchip
  • Dewormed
  • Flea/tick treatment
  • Heartworm or FELV/FIV testing
  • Free sample bag of food and other services

The shelter is first come, first served and cannot put animals on hold. Plan accordingly and be sure to arrive early.

Go online to view available pets. The shelter will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and is located at 1015 Univeter Road in Canton.
