Here are the top stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- Hal Beaumont Beacham, a man facing over 30 felony charges, has been captured. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office had been searching for the suspect since May 4, when a SWAT team attempted to capture him near his home, shutting down Kellogg Creek Road. Beacham is facing charges in Bartow to include theft by taking, damage to property, theft by receiving, entering auto and a long list of misdemeanors. In Cherokee, the man is suspected of stealing an ATV on Jan. 23, a felony charge. There are reportedly other cases that may be related, and the Cherokee Sheriff is looking into those. - The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners is holding its regular meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the Admin Complex at 1130 Bluffs Parkway. There's a good amount on the agenda, you can read that here, including a public hearing on the 2023 Comprehensive Plan update. The document outlines the future growth, development, investment and land use changes in the county, and after receiving the public's input via the official website, it's time for the plan to be put before the Department of Community Affairs and the Atlanta Regional Commission for their review. If you'd like to attend, the official Rules of Procedure are here — you can find the specific rules and standards for public comment on page 12. (Cherokee County Events)
- The Lolek's Storytellers Theatre Company is hosting an escape room-style puzzle game from May 26 to 29 at the Historic Canton Theatre. You'll be tasked with saving the theater by finding a missing deed through the completion of puzzle, clue and lockbox games. The event, "Escape Room: Save the Canton Theatre - A Live Mystery Puzzle Game," will raise funds for Lolek's Storytellers and would be a great time for families and friends. Both beginner and advanced games are being offered, and group discounts are available for larger gatherings, parties and corporate events. (Canton Events)
- There's a Princess Pool Party coming up at the Cherokee Aquatic Center on June 3. The event will take place in the Rec Pool from 6-9 p.m. and will feature an Ariel character from "The Little Mermaid," who will be singing, dancing, making crafts and taking pictures with your children from 6-7 p.m. Afterwards, the movie will be shown on the screen while the kids relax in the pool.
