Marshal's Office Cracks Down On Littering On Roadways
Law enforcement agencies led a Jan. 23 campaign to target vehicles violating county ordinances such as littering and no-truck routes.
CANTON, GA — Law enforcement agencies around Cherokee County came together Wednesday to crack down on litter and debris from commercial vehicles and to ensure they are abiding by local ordinances.
The Cherokee Marshal's Office organized this multi-jurisdictional operation, which also checked if these trucks were following the county's no-through truck routes and operating safely.
More than 30 public safety officials from the marshal's office, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Canton, Holly Springs, Ball Ground and Woodstock police departments, and the Georgia Department of Public Safety – Motor Carrier Compliance Division participated in the operation.

"Our office commonly fields calls from the public expressing concern about some commercial vehicles who are littering the roadways of Cherokee County," said Chief Marshal Ron Hunton. "We also get complaints about large commercial vehicles traveling on some of our smaller roads which is often a violation and can damage the roadway. This is a direct response to the public’s concern."
The Jan. 23 campaign was the third time in as many years the Cherokee Marshal's Office has coordinated this multi-agency project, said Jay Baker, the director of communications for the agency.
The Marshal's Office is tasked with investigating and enforcing ordinance violations in unincorporated Cherokee County. It also oversees the Cherokee County Animal Control and the Animal Shelter, E-911 and Recycling Center operations.
