The Cherokee County Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of our new temporary exhibit, Mapping Cherokee.

From the Cherokee County Historical Society: The Cherokee County Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of our new temporary exhibit, Mapping Cherokee, Featuring the 20th Century Map and Photo Collection of Lat Ridgway, in the Cherokee County History Museum. The exhibit focuses on land surveyor, Lat Ridgway, who worked during in Cherokee County during the 1950s-70s. “The Museum is fortunate that Mr. Ridgway’s family donated the contents of his home office, along with his extensive map and aerial photograph collection,” said Meghan Quinlan, program manager for the Historical Society. “His aerial photo collection allows visitors to compare Cherokee County during the 1930s and ‘50s to how much we have grown today.”

Visitors are also invited to see recreations of Mr. Ridgway’s home office, including his calculator from the 1930s and a large format Rotolite printer from the 1950s.

The exhibit is located in Suite 140 of the historic marble courthouse and will be open throughJanuary 27, 2018 and admission is free.
