Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:

  1. Canton has been named one of five local governments in the state to collaborate with the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing. The three-year program will offer technical assistance and collaboration with the chosen governments to determine local housing needs. The program will work directly with the community to involve them in the process. Besides Canton, the cities in the program are Chamblee, Villa Rica, and Montezuma. Gwinnett County was also selected.   2. Cherokee County has voted in favor of allowing the package sale of distilled spirits. Unincorporated areas will now be able to get licenses to sell distilled spirits. The decision was finalized in the early hours of Wednesday morning after all precincts were reported. A total of 79.2 percent of residents were in favor of the referendum, while 26.2 percent of voters opposed it. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News via Facebook)
