"Serving Up History" Invites Visitors to Explore Local Foodways

History Cherokee announces the opening of a delectable temporary exhibit titled "Serving Up History" at the Cherokee County History Center. This exhibit invites visitors to take a journey into the culinary heritage of Cherokee County and explore local foodways through an array of local cookbooks, kitchen implements, and more.

The highlight of "Serving Up History" are the many and varied cookbooks created by churches, garden clubs, and civic organizations. Through these cookbooks, we catch glimpses of history whether it’s through the ingredients used, stories shared by recipe contributors, tips and tricks included for the reader, or advertisements from local businesses.

"Serving Up History" opens February 7 and runs through May 26. The exhibit is free for History Cherokee members and included in general admission for non-members. The Cherokee County History Center is open Wednesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon - 5 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for adults age 65 and up and children ages 5-14, and free for children under 5.

During the run of “Serving Up History,” History Cherokee will be collecting food for food banks in Cherokee County. During the month of February, History Cherokee is collecting food for MUST Ministries. All guests to the Cherokee County History Center who bring in one item for the food drive will receive $1 off general admission. Visiting with family and friends? Bring in one item per person and receive $1 off each person’s admission.
