Here are the top four stories today in Canton-Sixes:

  1. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is searching for two stolen items today, a trailer and an ATV. A 2008 Carry on 5x10 Utility Trailer with GA tag TL3N083 was taken from the Water Lake Subdivision near Vaughn Road, sometime between the afternoon on May 9 and the morning on May 10. It is a black, metal trailer. If you have any information, please contact the sheriff at 678-493-4080 or 911. A Polaris Sportsman 700 ATV was stolen from Bells Ferry Road near Crabapple Drive, sometime between the evening on May 5 and the morning on May 9. If you have any information on this one, please call 770-928-0239 or 911. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
  2. This Saturday is History Cherokee's "History Factory: A Day on the Trail with Eva Gumbert and Katy Ross." The walk starts at 10 a.m. and will bring you down a private trail along the Etowah River as you learn about the native plants in the area and how they've been used. You'll even get a plant to bring home with you. The trail is about a mile long, and it is considered moderately difficult terrain. (History Cherokee)
  3. Here in the relatively rural areas of Cherokee County, there's a need and purpose for outdoor cats. Farms of all kinds often entrust rodent-clearing activities to these fine felines, and in return, the cats are kept well fed, sheltered and brought to the vet when needed. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has a program for cats like these called the "Barn Cat" program. If you're interested, these adult cats are free to adopt and they come with their spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies shots, flea preventative and microchip done. They also go home with a crate and sample bag of cat food; you can find more information here. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
  4. The Summer Fest Talent Show is coming up soon. Therapeutic Recreation, a program for those with physical and intellectual disabilities out of Cherokee Recreation & Parks, is holding the event on May 26, from 5-8 p.m., and you can expect a ton of talent, raffle prizes, food trucks, crafts, a magician and dance party, a singalong and games. Tickets are on sale at the link for the event at The Buzz, 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
