- A truck fire in Cherokee County caused major delays on I-75 yesterday morning. The big rig caught fire on I-75 South near Acworth just after midnight which caused all southbound lanes to close while crews worked to extinguish the fire and clean up the roadway. One lane remained closed during the morning commute. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- Cherokee County Commission Chairman Harry Johnston delivered the State of the County Address on Tuesday at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center in Canton. Other key speakers at the address included Cherokee Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Hightower and Cherokee Office of Economic Development President Misti Martin. Johnston said, "Cherokee County has almost everything going for it, the opportunity to maintain our increasingly rare quality of life, and the will to succeed. We must, we can and we will keep Cherokee County the world’s best place to live." (Cherokee County GA)
- Attention local small business owners: The last day to apply for the Cherokee Small Business Grant is Jan. 31, 2o23. If you have a small business in Cherokee County which was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic you could be awarded funding through this grant. The grant is made possible by the county's Board of Commissioners and the American Rescue Plan Act. More information about the grant is available here. - In case you missed it, Cherokee County native Bryce Leatherwood was honored with "Bryce Leatherwood Day" on Jan. 24. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners honored NBC's "The Voice" season 22 winner during their meeting this week. District 2 Commissioner Richard Weatherby said, "I felt it was important that we, as a Board, recognize the accomplishments of this young man raised here in Cherokee County." (11 Alive)
