TU completes 6th Veterans & First Responders Fly Fishing class
The Trout Unlimited Cohutta Chapter has been conducting fly fishing classes for veterans and first responders since 2020.
The Trout Unlimited Cohutta Chapter has completed its sixth veterans and first responders class at the Boys and Girls Club of Canton. The classes are conducted twice a year and consist of three consecutive Thursdays. The classes cover equipment, entomology, fly tying, common flies and knots used in fly fishing, safety, resources, and fly casting each day taught by certified casting instructors. All the equipment is provided and the classes are free to veterans and first responders.
Fly Fishing is therapeutic for the mind, body and soul. Mother nature and the trout stream provide a connectivity and healing path that allows life's stresses and pressures to flow away. It benefits all veterans and first responders and including those with mental and physical disabilities and PTSD.
The grand finale is taking the class fly fishing. The students get to experience fly fishing on a beautiful mountain stream in north Georgia. This is a awesome experience that will build memories to last a lifetime and starts a new connection with the great outdoors.
