'The Heart of the Chase' Great Locomotive Chase Bus Tour

The Great Locomotive Chase, often referred to as one of the most famous espionage stories from the Civil War, took place on April 12, 1862. More than 40 percent of this notorious story took place in Bartow County. 

Retrace the route of the Great Locomotive Chase through Bartow County on the “Heart of the Chase” bus tour sponsored by Bartow History Museum, Etowah Valley Historical Society, and Cartersville-Bartow Convention & Visitors Bureau. 

Author and historian, Joe Head, will lead this exciting excursion across the county, retelling the story as we make stops in Emerson, Cartersville, Kingston, Adairsville and others.

Head is the author of The General: The Great Locomotive Dispute, and over the years has done a tremendous amount of research on all aspects of this compelling event.  

The tour begins at 9 a.m. in Emerson and will return to Emerson around 5 p.m. Bus transportation is provided by Leisure Time.

Tickets are $35 for members and $40 for not-yet-members and include bus transportation, lunch, admissions to museums and historic sites on the route, and other special treats.
