1 Dead, Home Damaged In Pair Of Cartersville Fires

Bartow County firefighters tend to two blazes, one that killed a person and another that heavily damaged a home.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Thanksgiving blaze killed a person, and a fire hours prior left a home heavily damaged, last week in Cartersville, fire officials said Tuesday.

The first house fire happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 490 block of Highway 61 Southeast, according to Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services.

When crews arrived, fire officials said they found flames and heavy smoke coming from the single-story home. Though the home suffered significant damage, fire officials said no one was injured.

The cause of the fire was not released, but fire officials said it was ruled accidental.

About three hours later, a deadly blaze sparked around 12:45 a.m. Thursday in the 5700 block of Highway 20 Southeast, fire officials said. Heavy smoke and flames ignited at the single-story home.

While walking around the house, fire officials said they found a person who died. Fire investigators were then called to the scene, officials said. The person was not identified.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
