Man Pulls Knife on Officer

Cartersville police Friday arrested a man who allegedly pulled a Gerber pocket knife on a probation officer.

Police called to transport a man to jail were notified en route the man had allegedly pulled a knife on a female probation officer after being told he was going to jail.

According to the incident report, Devon Laird Stubbs, 19, of 1674 Mission Road, Cartersville, was at Professional Probation Services on North Tennessee Street around 3 p.m. Friday to give a urine sample for drug testing.

He allegedly gave the officer "a difficult time" and began "pacing in the room," but eventually gave the sample. Results showed the urine was from an unknown person and had been brought into the office in a condom.

The woman told Stubbs a police officer was on the way to arrest him and he needed to place his personal items in a plastic bag. Stubbs allegedly said, "No, I'm not going to jail," retrieved a black Gerber pocket knife and held it up toward the probation officer.

She said Stubbs clicked the knife open and stared at her. When he opened the knife in her direction, she went for it and took it from Stubbs' hand.

After police arrived, Stubbs said multiple times he "did not mean to" and was "very sorry." He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
