2031 Alison Court Finally Demolished to the Sound of Community Applause

Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms along with members from the Atlanta Police Code Enforcement department gathered outside of 2031 Alison Court SW on Thursday morning to witness and celebrate one of the cities worst blighted properties finally be brought down to the ground.

According to a community member in the crowd the abandoned apartment complex  in southwest Atlanta, near the intersection of Myrtle and Alison, has been a longtime eyesore, and she expressed how she will feel so much safer when walking past this property.

APD Code Enforcement sought the demolition through In-Rem Review Board process.  This is the second blighted property to be identified and torn down in the past year and a half.

In a released statement, the City says, "APD Code Enforcement is working with Mayor Kasim Reed and the Atlanta City Council to clean up blighted properties throughout the City of Atlanta that are breeding grounds for crime, and negatively affecting quality of life for nearby residents."

"Today’s demolition is a testament to the transformation that can occur in our neighborhoods when our communities and City work together,” said Councilwoman Bottoms.   "The best part of today was watching a little boy clap as the buildings came down.  He will no longer have to look at that eyesore each time he goes off to school or goes outside to play.  The tearing down of those buildings was a huge boost to the morale of members of that community.   It is a reminder that they have not been forgotten by the City, and that we will continue to do to make our neighborhoods safer.  With a revamped code enforcement department, we are committed to holding property owners accountable for the conditions of their properties and to ridding our city of public health hazards and havens for crime.”

The complex was built in 1968.
