"20th Annual" Freaknic Next Month

Websites report a version of Freaknik will return April 15-17; Grant Park Greek picnic event heavily promoted.

Even though the popular Spring Break Freaknik isn't officially a southwest Atlanta event it canβ€”shall we sayβ€”change things in the neighborhood.

The 24-hour thumping automobile music and all that goes with it are scheduled to return April 15-17 when the "20th annual"Β FreaknicΒ comes to town.

According to a heavily promoted website Freaknic Nation,Β a Freaknic Atlanta Greek picnic will converge on Grant Park Sat., April 16.Β 

Meanwhile, at least one other another website, iFreaknik, is promoting a similar event the same day. The iFreaknik picnic is at the 77-acre South Bend Park, atΒ 1955 Compton Dr., near Lakewood.

According to a story Monday on WXIA-TV 11-Alive, the promoter of the Grant Park picnic does not have a city of Atlanta event permit. The 11-Alive story reports that the South Bend group has a permit for its event.
