Atlanta Ranks Among Top Five in Child Poverty Nationally

Fulton County District 5 Commissioner, Emma Darnell released a statement today bringing to our attention that Atlanta ranked #5 on the list of top cities that have children living in poverty.

The commissioner's statement:

At 49%, the City of Atlanta has been ranked #5 of 50 cities for “children living in areas of concentrated poverty.” Only Detroit, Cleveland, Miami and Milwaukee have higher rates of children living in poverty. The Report developed by the “National Kids Count Program” also notes that “the effects of concentrated poverty begin to appear once neighborhood poverty rates rise above 20%.”
