Atlanta Ranks Among Top Five in Child Poverty Nationally

Atlanta nearly tops the list for child poverty

Fulton County District 5 Commissioner, Emma Darnell released a statement today bringing to our attention that Atlanta ranked #5 on the list of top cities that have children living in poverty.

The commissioner's statement:

At 49%, the City of Atlanta has been ranked #5 of 50 cities for β€œchildren living in areas of concentrated poverty.” Only Detroit, Cleveland, Miami and Milwaukee have higher rates of children living in poverty. The Report developed by the β€œNational Kids Count Program” also notes that β€œthe effects of concentrated poverty begin to appear once neighborhood poverty rates rise above 20%.”
