Atlanta Water Surpasses Clean, Safe Standards, City Says

Atlanta's water exceeds federal and state standards, the city's Department of Watershed Management said Friday.

ATLANTA, GA -- Atlanta’s water is safe to drink and in compliance with state and federal requirements, the city's Department of Watershed Management said Friday. The agency said it is bound by law to adhere to standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safe Drinking Water Act and the Georgia Safe Drinking Water Act, which includes updating the public on the state of its water supply.

“The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management is committed to providing the highest quality drinking water to our residents and visitors,” Kishia Powell, Commissioner of the Department of Watershed Management, said in a news release.

“Our results show that City’s drinking water continues to meet or exceed standards established by EPA and the state of Georgia,” Powell said. The announcement comes weeks after a boil-water advisory was lifted from all parts of Atlanta. The advisory affected thousands of homes and businesses, many of them restaurants who had to resort to serving customers bottled water. The city said that it found no water contamination in its most recent tests of the water system.
