Commission Decides Rep. Tyrone Brooks Can Stay in Office

A three person panel appointed by Governor Deal, deliberated today whether or not to remove Rep. Tyrone Brooks from office due to the Federal charges ofΒ misappropriatingΒ funds.

The commission unanimously determined that the indictment against Brooks does not relate to his duties as a state representative.Β 

The letter sent to Governor Deal by the commission reads:

In accordance with Georgia Constitution, Article II, Section III, Paragraph I, theΒ Review Commission appointed by the Governor to make certain determinationsΒ regarding United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia indictmentΒ number 1:13CR206 against Georgia State Representative Tyrone Brooks, Sr., convenedΒ and had a hearing on June 28, 2013.Β 

After hearing from interested parties and reviewing the federal indictment, theΒ Commission determines that the indictment against Representative Brooks does not relateΒ to the performance or activities of the office of Georgia State Representative.

The 3 members of the panel include Steven Henson of District 41, Samuel Olens the Attorney General, and Stacey Abrams the House Minority Leader.
