Cascade Patch Recognized by Atlanta Association of Black Journalists

Editor Marc Richardson and Cascade Patch win at the AABJ Awards Gala

Cascade Patch readers have one more thing to be proud of, as one of our stories recently won an award at the 2013 Pioneer Black Journalist Award Ceremony.

Editor, Marc Richardson, was awarded the first place prize in the Digital Media Presentation category for the coverage of Reverend Jasper Williams and Salem Bible Church's event to mobilize churches to "Get Out the Vote" ahead of the 2012 election. Β The highlight of the article was the moving video that touched peoples emotions.

Rev. Jasper Williams' project was officially called the "99 andΒ 1/2 Won't Do Project" and it urged churches to coalesce and work together to re-elect President Obama for a second-term. Β Church leaders and community activists took part in a full day of activities that eventually led to one of the largest voting outreach programs the City of Atlanta has ever seen.

This past election saw Georgia, a historic Red State, begin to turn purple and give hope to Georgia Democrats that in the future the state could actually become a blue state. Β Rev. Jasper and his 99 & 1/2 project did wonders to help get the African-American turn out to record levels, and should be congratulated for their efforts.

Cascade Patch wants to thank the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists for the award and recognition of local news websites like ourselves. Β We also want to thank our Cascade Patch readers for supporting us and making our community such a great place to live and work everyday.

This award is for all of us! Congratulations!
