Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly on Martin Luther King Dr. near Chappell Rd.

A man dies from his injuries after trying to break into a home.


According to Atlanta Police Department, a man has died from his injuries he sustained after attempting to break into the home of his children's mother on Martin Luther King Drive during the early hours of Friday morning.Β 

Police are calling this a domestic dispute, because the residents and the deceased knew each other, though the man does not live in the house.Β  The homeowner says the man was not invited to her house Thursday night/Friday morning when he kicked the door in.

Sgt. Gregory Lyon told Cascade Patch, "at approximately 02:36 a.m., units responded and determined that the deceased male entered the home of his mother’s children by force.Β  An assault ensued between the deceased male and the child’s mother."

A 16 year-old boy who lives in the house, "came to the rescue of his mother and held the suspect down until police arrived," according to Sgt. Lyon.

Once police arrived, they found the suspect, "not alert, conscious or breathing."Β

The suspect was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.Β  APD Homicide Units and Investigators processed the scene, but there will not be a cause of death until an autopsy can be performed.

It is unclear how the trespassing suspect sustained the fatal wounds, and whether he was strangled or hit his head in some way.Β  Fox 5 was the first to respond to the scene and interview the 16 year-old who helped to protect his mother.
