Hundreds Crowd St. Paul's Episcopal Church for 6 a.m. Paschal Vigil and Sunrise Service
Well-known in the Episcopal/Anglican community, Cascade Heights' St. Paul's is the Atlanta Diocese's fastest growing parish and the second largest predominantly African-American and Caribbean-American Episcopal Church in the U.S.
At 5:40 Easter morning, Peyton Road was bumper-to-bumper with drivers waiting to turn into the parking lot of St. Paul's Episcopal Church to celebrate their belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, one of the cornerstone of Christian faith.
At 6 a.m., Father Robert Wright began the church's annual Paschal Vigil with all the ceremony, incense, a cappella vocals and circumstance characteristic of Anglican and Catholic denominations.
Across southwest Atlanta, thousands of worshipers attended morning vigils like the one at St. Paul's. Tens of thousands more will attend Easter children's pageants, praise services and festive homecomings before the day ends.
