Hurricane Season Starts Today: Get Tips and Win a Weather Radio

Prepare, Plan, Stay Informed.  Those are the three pillars to staying safe and surviving severe weather events, according to the Georgia Emergency management Association (GEMA).

As hurricane season kicks off along the Atlantic coast, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency’s Ready Georgia campaign is partnering with WSB-TV’s Family 2 Family for the fourth consecutive year to arm Georgians with NOAA Weather Radios.

Southwest Atlanta has a number of large old trees that surround our houses and power lines.  This is one of the great features that makes our neighborhoods so nice and desirable.  But during severe storms we all know that this could be dangerous, so it is best that we stay prepared and vigilant.

The Ready Georgia Campaign is a great easy resource that will give you a personal preparedness plan, as well as a customized checklist of emergency supplies.  All that they ask is that you visit the website and sign up for the chance to win a state-of-the-art weather radio.

“NOAA Weather Radios are a critical emergency preparedness tool for the home," said Charley English, director of GEMA/Homeland Security. “Unfortunately, our research shows that only 30 percent of Georgia residents have one of these lifesaving devices. If you are sleeping or away from a computer or TV, your NOAA Weather Radio may be the only thing that will alert you to advancing threats, which are likely during hurricane season and year-round.”
