Roberts tried to get in to retrieve a gun from the apartment he shared with Pearson, but when he could not, he left and returned with another pistol, according to police reports.

Roberts somehow made his way into the apartment and shot the three inside, hitting Pearson in her shoulder and Pickens in his back.

Roberts, who has a child with Pearson, had been arrested on May 2 for allegedly beating her and breaking out her car window.
