ATLANTA, GA -- With a crucial part of Interstate 85 out of commission because of the fire and collapse last week, Atlanta faces a transportation crisis that will test its meddle over the next several months, but do-gooders are proving that they are up for the challenge.
Local businesses are providing services that will aid people hindered by the bridge shutdown in the city's midsection.
Here are some entities spreading good will around Atlanta to help in the wake of the I-85 debacle.
Chick-fil-A is offering free breakfast to carpoolers to encourage commuters to ride together and ease traffic around the city. Visit any Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A with three or more people in a vehicle and breakfast is absolutely free. The deal runs through April 14 and extends to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
The restaurant will also be offering free meals to the workers of the I-85 site for the duration of repairs, the eatery said on Twitter.

Uber

Uber is giving riders in metro Atlanta a 25 percent discount on uberPOOL rides this week to encourage users to carpool rather than add more vehicles on the road. And if your ride involves stopping at a MARTA stations, the ride-sharing service will raise the discount to 50 percent.The Uber deals are good this week from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., according to the AJC.

Open Hand Atlanta / Zifty food service

Volunteers are also stepping up to help the organization Open Hand Atlanta, known for delivering meals around town for the city's infirm. The helpers, who work for Zifty food delivery, drove much-needed food to people on Friday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Free MARTA rides for Fulton employees

If you're employed by Fulton County, you'll in line for an added benefit: The county is making plans to subsidize all travel on MARTA and GRTA for two months to help ease traffic until the interstate is fixed.

Tech firm offers free work space

Prototype Prime, located on Technology Parkway, is hosting an β€œOpen Work Week” through April 7. The Peachtree Corners office space features free parking, Internet, coffee and even a happy hour party this week.

GDOT officials announced Tuesday that the interstate repairs should be completed in mid-June.
